Getting to Marienbad

How to reach Mariánské Lázně: flights, trains, buses, driving. Distances, travel times and practical tips.

Location

Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad) lies in the western tip of the Czech Republic, in the Slavkov Forest (Kaiserwald), just 30 km from the Bavarian border. Its convenient location makes the town easily accessible from Germany, Austria and the wider region.

By Air

Prague Airport (PRG) — 160 km

Prague Václav Havel International Airport is the main gateway. From Prague to Marienbad is approximately 2 hours by car or 3 hours by bus. Several shuttle services offer direct transfers to the spa hotels.

Karlovy Vary Airport (KLV) — 50 km

The small regional airport offers seasonal connections to selected European cities. Just 50 km away — approximately 45 minutes by car.

Munich Airport (MUC) — 300 km

A practical option for travellers from southern Germany and international long-haul connections. Approximately 3 hours by car via the A9/A93 motorways.

By Train

Mariánské Lázně railway station has regular connections:

  • From Prague: approximately 3 hours — several expresses run daily direct via Plzeň (Pilsen), with no change. The route through the Slavkov Forest is one of the most scenic railway journeys in the Czech Republic.
  • From Plzeň: approximately 1.5 hours direct
  • From Karlovy Vary: approximately 1 hour
  • From Cheb: 25 minutes — with connections to international trains to/from Germany

Via Cheb, there are connections to the German rail network (Nuremberg, Hof, Munich).

By Bus

FlixBus and RegioJet connect Marienbad with:

  • Prague (approximately 2.5 hours)
  • Plzeň, Karlovy Vary, Cheb

Coaches offer WiFi, power outlets and refreshments. The bus station is a short walk from the town centre.

By Car

From Prague (160 km, approx. 2 hours)

Take the D5 motorway towards Plzeň, then follow signs via R21 to Mariánské Lázně. Well signposted.

From Munich (300 km, approx. 3 hours)

A9 northbound, A93 to the border crossing at Pomezí nad Ohří/Schirnding, then continue to Mariánské Lázně.

From Nuremberg (200 km, approx. 2.5 hours)

A6/A93 to the border, then follow signs to Mariánské Lázně.

Tolls and Vignette

A motorway vignette is required for Czech motorways. You can purchase it electronically at edalnice.cz or at border crossings and petrol stations.
