Maria's Spa is a unique product, which mirrors the history of Mariánské Lázně. The spa complex which has always specialised in the usage of natural resources, was the first place in Europe and maybe in the world, where peat was used for healing (historical name Mud Bath). Maria's Spa is also the place where the natural CO2 Maria's gas emerges, which then gave its name to the town - Mariánské Lázně.
The guarantee of an unrepeatable experience in the historic ambience of one of the oldest buildings in Mariánské Lázně, will be in comfort category accommodation in 20 rooms alongside the individualistic spa complex with the unique treatments which use natural Maria's CO2 gas and peat. The complex will be connected by covered and heated colonnades (promenades with historical displays) to the hotels Nové Lázně, Centrální Lázně.
History
The original ‘Mud Bath’ was built by arch. Friedrich Zickler between 1881-1882 near the Maria's spring pavilion. On the ground floor there were 34 cubicles for mud baths. Each cubicle had its own rest room and dressing room and there was also a spacious, light hall with relaxation beds.
The mud-spa had a long tradition in Mariánské Lázně, by 1903 it had provided more then 1 000 treatments per day. Dr. Nehr, one of the founders of Mariánské Lázně, used peat for hand and leg wraps. A total peat bath was tried for the first time by Dr. Heidler 1823.
This is also a reason why Mariánské Lázně is considered as the first spa in the world, where the first total peat bath was provided.

Maria's Spa and its reconstruction is another step taken by the company Léčebné lázně Mariánské Lázně a.s. to restore the historical heart of the town of Mariánské Lázně and the place of its foundation. By reconstructing Maria's Spa, a unique historical spa complex will be extended to New & Central & Maria's Spa, which will then become one of the most wonderful and most preserved gems of spa architecture not only in the Czech Republic but also in Europe.
